      LEGISLATION CAPABILITY ROADSHOW - BRISTOL

      Legislation Capability is coming to Bristol! We will be running five training sessions over the course of the day: 10:00 - 11:00 Bills for Beginners Bills for Beginners is a 60 minute introduction to the world of Primary Legislation. The session covers the key stages in delivering Bills, the relevant parliamentary procedures, the products required through the lifecycle as well as Defra’s challenges ahead. It is designed to give you a fundamental understanding of the legislative process and an opportunity to ask questions on this subject. 11:30 - 12:30 Amendments Handling This 60 minute course is designed to give teams  an idea of what to expect when handling amendments. This interactive session will cover what amendments are, the procedures and timelines for handling amendments and will provide you with advice and tips on how best to support this crucial stage in the journey of a Bill. 11:30 - 12:30 Withdrawal Agreement Bill (WAB) Training This is a 60 minute informal training session about the new EU Exit Bill, please come along if you are interested in learning more about the why, when and what of the WAB, or have questions about how it will affect your work. 13:30 - 14:30 Box Training The Box session focuses on how officials support Ministers delivering legislation in the Official’s Box in Parliament. This includes “Boxing Tactics,” a role-play game putting you in the Official’s Box, supporting your Minister during a  debate. 15:00 - 16:15 Legislating in a New Era Legislating in a New Era (LIANE) looks back at the legislative developments of the last few years. We cover legislating as an EU member state, the key milestones in post-referendum legislation, the changes in how EU legislation interacts with the domestic statute book and implications for Defra policy areas. This session is open to everyone, so come and join us to learn about how you can deliver policy through legislating in the new, post-EU exit era!
