An Anglo-German Conference: A New Social Contract for Sustainability?

Hosted by The Schumacher Institute and German partners

      5th Floor of the Arnolfini

      20th and 21st of June – 9.30am – 4.30pm

We require new ways to tackle deepening global environmental, social and financial crises.

Inspired by the work of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WGBU) and its report ‘World in Transition – A Social Contract for Sustainability,’ we are hosting a two-day conference that will combine research with public debate to explore the social, political and economic implications of this concept.

Could it be an EU-wide platform, providing stimulation and guidance to address major environmental and social changes?

      Programme

Day One:  Expert presentations with research workshops to identify key issues and explore the proposals for, and implications of, a New Social Contract for Sustainability.

Day Two: Presentation of research discussions and public debate to explore what a New Social Contract for Sustainability means and how we can take these ideas forward in a practical way.

We will be welcoming a range of speakers to offer their expertise in environmental, economic and governance issues, including:

      •Sir Graham Watson MEP

•Anna Coote, Head of Social Policy at New Economics Foundation

•Leo Hickman, Features Journalist and Editor at the Guardian

•Reinhard Loske, Professor of Sustainability and Transformation Dynamics at University of Witten/Herdecke

      •Mandy Singer-Brodowski, Wuppertal Institute
